The Business Challenge:
- A large scale resource development company had instigated a number of key projects in bothAustraliaand overseas
- There was a need to establish the key lessons learned arising from the spending of over $800 million dollars in several pre-feasibility studies and a large scale resource development project
Approach adopted by Direct Focus:
Phase 1: Customer stakeholder and project planning
- Consultative approach was adopted with the customer to determine the key elements of the project(s) which needed to be discussed
- A lessons learned methodology was recommended and agreed to by the customer
Phase 2: Workshop and lessons learned workshop campaign
- Significant consultation occurred with stakeholders, including holding several lessons learned workshops inside a rigorous and structured workshop agenda
- Extensive knowledge capture occurred during and after the workshops
Phase 3: Lessons learned report prepared
- Lessons learned report prepared and documented
- Report summarised major findings and recommendations to give direction to on-going innovation and continuous improvement, with respect to the corporate project management system of the enterprise
Outcomes to Customer:
- Recommendations of enhanced service-support and knowledge-networking systems for the management of large-scale projects
- Resulted in new project selection mechanisms and policies and procedures to manage the risk of large-scale resource development projects for the company
